Mãché

1665 Rue St-Denis, Montreal

Located on one of the two main streets for restaurants and clubs in Montreal, this little mash up restaurant is surrounded by bars and nightlife. Located just off the sidewalk down a little stairwell, it is perfectly situated for the outside breeze and great for people watching should you chose to do so. The small outdoor seating area is maintained well and from the outside looking in the restaurant has a clean and vibrant feel. The staff were friendly, both speaking french and english and easily able to accommodate with an english translated menu for the mono-linguists such as ourselves.

Le "Spicy"
Ground Beef, merguez sausages, hot peppers, fried garlic, onions, corn, mash potato:

What we would call "Shepherds Pie" in Australia this dish comes out with a different twist by adding spices and extra toppings. The title suggests it may be for someone who enjoys the spicier side of life however the spice was not overpowering and quite delightful on the pallet. The mash potato was smooth and creamy, and the meat had plenty of flavour. We were expecting a little more from the dish, possibly more of an original twist and it left us a little disappointed. We could have quite easily have made this dish at home.

Ragoūt de pattes de cochon
Pork Meatballs, pork cubes 24 hours, potatoes

This was a hearty meal for the warm weather. The meatballs were cumbersome and the bowl was certainly filled to the brim. The potatoes were warm and the cubes were also cooked well. However this dish lacked flavour and did not impress us at all. A simple meal, not bad for the price.

A nice Restaurant, good value for money, however the dishes did leave us slightly disappointed in the quality off the food. We may have chosen the wrong dishes to eat but with both lacking it left an empty feeling in our hearts.

Rating for this Restaurant

2 Devils Out 5

But beware next time cause.......
